A hemacytometer, when used with a microscope, is the only method available to estimate sperm concentrations of extended semen samples. During the freezing process it is helpful to know the concentration of extended
semen after the centrifugation process. Unopettes® are used during this process to accurately dilute the sample before loading into the hemacytometer for counting.
The hemacytometer/Unopette ® kit contains detailed instructions for counting sperm and all supplies necessary to count 10 ejaculates. Additional Unopettes® may be purchased in convenient packages of 10. The hemacytometer may also be used as a low cost alternative to estimate raw semen concentrations if a sperm counter is not available.
Unopettes ® are single use dilution chambers which insure an accurate 1:100 dilution.
The diluted semen is then loaded into a hemacytometer. Unopettes ® are sold in packages of 10 or a bulk canister of 100.
